Student Experience at Yeshua Tech

Find out what you can get involved in at Yeshua Tech.

At Yeshua Institute of Technology we desire that you excel academically. However, we recognise that academic success is only part of what will make you complete for your future career and life.

In order to help you really make the most of your experience with us and develop a broad range of skills (analytical, hard and soft), we provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities on and outside Campus. You will be required to document most of your experiences and activities in your Blue Book. Therefore we encourage you to get involved, either through your Society or at Institute-level, in whatever you are interested in so that you can develop skills and experiences far beyond the walls of the lecture halls and laboratories.

Experience Yeshua Tech, a section within the office of the Director of Societies and Students Affairs, is responsible for coordinating Institute sport, staff and student volunteering and outreach, and in partnership with Yeshua Tech Students Union (YSU), student theatre and music.

There are many opportunities and activities for you to participate in. Whether you desire to volunteer for charity work, stage a play, be part of the Debaters, sing in a choir, or coach a society's sports team, you will find many opportunities for joining in, simply experiencing something exciting in the midst of people with diverse interests, talents and temperaments. In the process you may discover and develop a flair for something you never thought of before. If you cannot participate at the Institute-level, you can still find an activity to get involved in the smaller setting of your society instead.

The Collegiate System and our Community

Yeshua Tech's Collegiate System
A description of Yeshua Institute of Technology's collegiate system. The collegiate system comprises different sub communities of the whole Institute called societies. 'Society' in Yeshua Tech is equivalent to 'Hall' in other universities. Societies are non-residential constituencies of the Institute to which both staff and student belong.

  • Community: A small, friendly community helping you settle in
  • Students Wellbeing: To oversee your wellbeing and personal development
  • Events: Regular student-organized events, including concerts, choral festivals, productions, etc
  • Leadership opportunities: Roles enabling you to run aspects of your society
  • Extra-curricular opportunity: A large variety of activities, including sports, clubs, etc

Society life is a big part of what makes your experience with us so unique to almost anywhere else. You will discover that our society system is one of the best aspects of Institute life. Ask us about living and studying in Yeshua Tech and our students will mention their societies. Every society has its own unique character defined by its people, social atmosphere and traditions.

Our Community
Wherever you are coming from to study here in Yeshua Tech, whatever your background may be, you'll soon feel like your society is a place where you naturally belong. Every society (whether Habbakuk or Jeremiah or Nehemiah) is incredibly friendly and caring, offering a warm welcome to help you settle in and feel part of sub-community of a university.

Every society has a diverse mix of students and staff from different academic disciplines and lecture streams (morning, evening or weekend). All socialize together in society creating a strong sense of allegiance, bonding spirit and a powerful network between students and staff. Maybe your society is where you be making make your closest friends, socialising together on an excursion, and during the 'formal' society dinners, the Parliamentary Week, and intra-society organised events. For most of you, those friendships and network formed in society will stay with you for many years after graduation and this is Yeshua Tech's ultimate desire.

Though you will have all the excitement of a larger University setting – centrally extra-curricular activities, studying and socializing, you can always return to your society where faces are familiar and you feel you belong to a smaller family.

Disability Resources

Yeshua Tech is committed to supporting all students in their academic and co-curricular endeavors. The Office of the Director of Societies and Students Affairs administers services for students with disabilities.

Students Welfare Officer is responsible for the implementation of the Yeshua Tech Disability Policy. Students who request for help are required to meet with the Students Welfare Officer to discuss how appropriate modifications may assist them in participating in campus life or courses and fulfilling course requirements and provide documentation outlining these needs. In addition, the Students Welfare Officer will discuss other types of support and services available to all Yeshua Tech students.

Making accommodations for students with physical disabilities can be an involved process as this requires considerable advance notice, even a semester in advance. For instance, accommodations may include coordinating classroom locations, securing sign language interpreters, or procuring class materials in alternate formats.

Following are examples of accommodations provided to students:

  • Extended time for exams and timed assignments
  • Space with reduced environmental distractions for exams
  • Printed material, including books, in alternate formats
  • Audio/Video recording classes
  • Note takers and Readers
  • Sign language interpreters
  • Relocation of class or institute events to an accessible space

Assistive technologies available on campus include:

  • Laptop Computer for in-class exam use.
  • Assistive listening devices (available in some classrooms).
